卡梅的云访校为大家带来了Tour Campus(校园参观),Admission Counseling Sessions(入学咨询会)以及 Information Sessions(招生宣讲会)三大板块。
Sujung:Everyone is very passionate about what they do and extremely hard-working and driven.
Lindsay:Carnegie Mellon offers lots of interdisciplinary options for students. There are dual degree programs which allow for combinations of studies in fine arts and natural science, engineering and humanities, and other colleges. There are also interdisciplinary majors such as the Global Studies major. So, instead of having your options limited, you have the opportunity to combine your interests in productive ways.
Matt:Ironically, the causes of the most frustration to Carnegie Mellon students are also the most desirable qualities of the university. The pressure to achieve at a high level is so great that even students that fall behind have advantage over peers at other universities. CMU's reputation garners immediate respect for its students, who consequently have little trouble landing internships, post-graduate work, and admission to prestigious graduate schools.
Laura:The best thing about Carnegie Mellon would probably be the diversity among its student body-- and not just racially and/or culturally. Our personalities range from the practical engineers to the out-going drama majors to the crazy science fanatics. Without such a diverse atmosphere, I believe I would feel boxed in at this school, which would be doomed to a stereotype of either too academically oriented or too artsy for any well-rounded persons' tastes.
Paul:The dorms create a great sense of community for those who are into that kind of thing, and are easily escapable for those who aren't. We have several strictly freshman dorms and a few for upperclassmen. Mudge House is a repurposed mansion. Donner House looks like its covered with bathroom tiles to me, and the inside is kind of a maze, but the students who dorm there love it. The Residence on Fifth has small theatre room and a game room, and the actual bedrooms have kitchens. Hammerschlag House is an all-male dorm with lots of traditions like Schlagmare, a haunted house type of thing during Hilloween (a Halloween celebration by the three or four dorms on "The Hill"), and Sausage Fest, where they grill up sausages and burgers for the campus. All the dorms have community events to allow students to socialize with each other and relax a bit between studies. Most of the dorms are pretty old, so they all have their own kind of personality and traditions. These tend to be pretty fun though, not stodgy, and where people dormed their freshman year tends to create a kind a of bond between them.
Sarah:Carnegie Mellon students are motivated and highly intelligent with interdisciplinary interests, ambitious goals and a commitment and passion for their work.
Max:I covered most of this already. They are relatively boring, myopic, apolitical and capitalistic; brainwashed by corporations, yet blissfully unaware. There is a love of gadgets bordering on obsessive. The students are remarkably unfriendly and hard to engage or interact with outside of one's own field or department.
L:talented - gorgeous - hardworking - probably leaning politically left - either very gay, or very gay-friendly. this is drama school people. - somewhat financially diverse - somewhat racially diverse - very diverse in terms of geography
Ryan:CMU is pretty apathetic, really. There are religious groups, political and LGBT groups on campus that are active, and you will find people that will support whatever interests you have, but in general most people are focused on their studies. The campus leans to the left, but it is far from "super liberal". Also, the student body is generally affluent, but there are many exceptions and it isn't assumed that everyone has strong financial resources in their parents. The only people who would feel out of place on campus are people who aren't passionate about life -- about their major, about the world, about their place in our future. I'm not going to lie -- disengaged, undirected people will not like it here.
Brandon:It is very easy to get brainwashed into the "I'm going to a great school and am going to get a great job and make great money when I'm done" mentality that exists in the culture here. The prospect of getting a degree for the sake of acquiring money as a means of raising one's status undermines the development of true passion and ingenuity for a trade or a cause.
Grace:The worst thing about my school would be the lack of sleep everyone gets, due to their workloads - but that's true at most prestigious colleges, no?
Aleksandra:The worst thing about my school would probably be the size. Because it is such a small school, everyone hears things about everyone else. This can lead to huge social problems.
Jacob:The worst thing about my school is probabaly how busy people sometimes seem to get. It can get pretty stressful but, at the same time, you always want to do more and don't have enough time for it.
Grace:expensive, competitive
Leslie:Without a doubt, the biggest complaint students have at CMU is the academic workload. Regardless of your major, the amount of time, energy, and effort students apply towards their craft is borderline nauseating. Students are almost in a perpetual state of sleep deprivation due to perfectionist tendencies, and the actual amount of schoolwork and studying associated with receiving their desired grade.
Audra:The journey will not be a straight line. You will not come out of college with the same career asperations and life visions you went into. The experiences you are most afraid to try will be the ones you cherish, that you turn over in your head an adult when things are uncertain. Don't be afraid of going abroad. You can and should never ben ashamed of asking for advice. However, remember that you already unciously know what you want. Listen to your gut. Take photos. Take photos of all those moments that seem fragile and transient. Don't be afraid to make mistakes or to go have stereotypical college experiences. The time to be an adult comes sooner than you think. You can trust your college friends with your hardships. When you are diagnosed with thyroid cancer junior year, you don't need to bear it silently. Your friends are stronger than you know and won't begrudge you help. Never let yourself stop writing.Once you reach graduate school, it will seem so important to learn to be professional, but don't allow yourself to lose the love of capture a moment in words on a page.
