二、职业发展
从近几年就业情况来看，无论是金融工程（MFE）、金融学硕士（MSF）还是MBA in Finance毕业生通常还有这样几种将趋向：
在美国毕业生们可以去：
商业银行的投资部门
证券公司、基金管理公司、证券交易所、期货交易所
三、信托投资公司、金融投资控股公司、投资咨询顾问公司、大型企业财务公司。
四、金融控股集团、资产管理公司、金融租赁、担保公司。
五、保险公司、保险经纪公司。
六、上市（或欲上市）股份公司证券部、财务部、证券事务代表、董事会秘书处等。
在中国毕业生们还可以去：
一、中央（人民）银行、银行业监督管理委员会、证券业监督管理委员会、保险业监督管理委员会，这是金融业监督管理机构。
二、国家开发银行、中国农业发展银行等政策性银行。
三、社保基金管理中心或社保局，通常为保险方向。
四、国家公务员序列的政府行政机构如财政、审计、海关部门等；高等院校金融财政专业教师；研究机构研究人员。
而对于金融专业博士生（PhD in Finance）,一般来说毕业后首选学术界，其次是选择去金融机构的研发部门。这和国内情况可能有所不同，尽管作教授的薪水与非学术界相比不是特别高，但也许收入到了一定水平，人们会更偏好其他因素，例如较好的工作环境以及周围有才智的同事，可以更好的作研究。"quote intellectual"――"智识"这个词就是用来形容这样一群人。还有一个特点是与国内不一样的，即博士毕业后的第一份工作一般是不留校的，这只是一种文化，觉得应该经常换换环境，以体现市场价值。
新博士的就业市场在美国是一套非常规范的程序。每年的10月到次年3月是一段非常集中的找工作时间，从面试到最后签约固定学校，都在这段时间内完成。每年10月以后，学校首先将博士毕业生进行内部分类，把选择学术界的学生集中一起。11月，开始投放简历，发出相关材料。一个人的简历尤其是毕业论文决定他得到面试机会的多少，教授的推荐信也起很大的作用。但面试后推荐信就不起很大作用了，主要看你在面试中的表现。在就业市场中，有来自全世界的许多院校来寻觅师资。面试主要在次年1月份，届时正逢美国经济学会年会召开，学术气氛很浓重。时间大概是半小时，主要要求在几分钟内简单阐述一下论文的内容以及其中的贡献，然后是今后有什么研究构想，能教什么课。通过面试，接下来是校园访问，为期1个月。期间主要进行论文演讲，准聘用学校的所有教授都去听讲，然后是个别交谈。访问结束后全体教授进行投票，决定是否聘用。受聘协商在2月到3月，此时双方协定具体的工资，待遇，课程安排等。如果一个博士生同时收到几份聘书，就有资本讨价还价了。
